Our Basement Suite Development Process
Initial Conversation
Every project starts with a quick conversation to understand your goals, your basement, and what you’re trying to accomplish. At this stage, we’re not getting into detailed planning yet. We’re simply figuring out whether the project makes sense and if it’s worth taking the next step.
In-Home Assessment
If the project seems like a fit, we come see the space in person. This is where we look at entrance options, layout potential, natural light, ceiling height, and any obvious issues that could affect the project. You get a straight read on what works, what doesn’t, and what direction we’d recommend.
Budget & Feasibility
Before getting into drawings or permits, we look at the numbers. Based on the space and what’s involved, we talk through rough cost ranges, suite options, and whether the project makes sense financially. If the numbers don’t work, it’s better to know that upfront.
Planning, Drawings & Permits
Once you’re ready to move forward, we get into proper planning. This includes working with a drafter, preparing the layout, reviewing code requirements, and handling the permit process. The goal is to account for the important details early so there are fewer surprises later.
Trades, Pricing & Build Management
With plans in place, we bring in the right trades to review the project and provide pricing. Once construction starts, we coordinate the work, schedule the trades, manage changes, keep communication clear, and help keep the project aligned with the budget.
Final Walkthrough & Rental-Ready Suite
As the project wraps up, we review the finishing details, address anything that needs attention, and make sure the suite is complete. The goal is a legal basement suite that meets code, functions properly, and is ready for someone to move in.
